Chapter 264 Battle for the Cowl (6)

The young policeman opened the lid of the vent revealing nothing in his sight. The light in the conduit was also very poor making him unable to see clearly.

It was obvious that as Clapton was speaking to the young officer, the man in the vents quietly crawled back.

If there had been no explosion in the room and the young officer had been good enough, he might have been able to climb onto the locker and see that the dust on the top had been wiped off. Unfortunately, that can’t happen after the explosion.

For sure, foxy Feng Bujue would not leave the broken Bluetooth in the ventilation duct, so this clue wouldn’t be found.

The officer climbed into the ventilation duct, propping himself up on his elbows and began to inch forward. After Clapton’s statement, his confidence in finding the culprit had also been greatly reduced. But just to test his guess, he still decided to take a look inside and see if he could find any traces.

But right now, Feng Bujue had already found a perpendicular conduit that leads to the top of the building and climbed onto the platform.

… This was not actually his original plan.

He thought that he could convince Clapton that he had escaped and claim that he was a supervillain to shock him; he’d then make another explosion to provoke him. Then, while the men were frenzied, he would throw a summoning creature out to make a diversion, creating a chance for him to escape.

But now things were simpler. Feng Bujue had heard what Clapton said through the intercom and since the roof wasn’t being monitored, he’d just climb out.

Soon he was able to get through the ducts leading to the roof of the building, which was previously being monitored by a sniper but was now all clear.

He rolled over on his back, and without a word, ran toward the roof of the neighboring building.

The guardrail was three or four meters away which goes the same for its height. For today’s Feng Bujue it wasn’t much, he can easily jump it even without the Body-Spirit Congregation Technique.

As mentioned earlier, no matter what specialization the player is trained in, after level 30, the physical ability of Matrix can be achieved. Currently, Feng Bujue was a level 28 and as a comprehensive player, all his abilities were above average.

Of course, if we talked about combat ability, the other five players are like Agent Smith and Feng Bujue is the little pawn of the organization. If they had to fight face to face, there would be no way for him except to surrender.

After a few jumps, Feng Bujue found himself on the roof of a nearby residential building. He found the fire escape and looked down into the alley. No one was there, in fact, there were only a few people on the streets nearby because everybody went outside to grab the money.

Feng Bujue went down to the second floor and jumped over the iron bar to land.

“Ah… This kind of shit happened to me the minute I got into the scenario.” Feng Bujue sighed, “Fortunately it didn’t take too long to get out.” he looked to his left and right, then launched [See My Move].

A figure bathed in red light appeared like an alchemy array on the ground in front of him. A red-figure appeared.

[Name: Summoning — Hammerhead Crane]

[Skill card attributes: Active skills, permanent mastery]

[Skill category: Summoning]

[Effect: Summons a hammerhead crane to fight for you (cooldown 10 min, duration 5 min, maximum of 1 crane at a time)]

[Consumption: Stamina value 50, Spiritual value 10]

[Learning condition: Summoning specialty F]

[Note: It can’t fly due to its hammerhead.]

“It seems rather weird…” Feng Bujue couldn’t see the skill description, but when the summon appeared, a new survival value bar appeared in the game menu (also shown as a percentage, no specific number), along with a” dismiss “option.

“Can you understand me?” Feng Bujue said.

The hammerhead crane did not respond…

“Well… Get over there.” Feng Bujue commanded, pointing to the ground on his left-hand side.

The hammerhead crane walked to its position.

“Jump.” Feng Bujue ordered.

The hammerhead crane jumped where it was.

“Stand by and jump in ten seconds.” When Feng Bujue finished, he ran ten meters in another direction. He looked back and saw that the hammerhead crane was still standing where it was and didn’t jump after ten seconds.

“So… It’s unable to communicate with me or take orders that are too complex,” Feng Bujue muttered as he went back to the summoned creature and said, “attack me.”

The hammerhead crane did not respond.

“Then…” he added, “death mimicry.”

Nothing happened…

“Stand on one foot.”

The hammerhead crane did so.

“Hold this position and circle in place.”

No reaction, but remained standing on one foot.

“so orders beyond their capacity are ignored…” he reached out to try and grab the crane by its neck but found that he couldn’t.

“The same as a teammate…” Then he tried to put the hammerhead crane into his bag. Magically, it worked.

“Well… I roughly get it .” When he was finished with his testing, he dismissed the summon because he could not just let it wander the streets with him.

“I don’t know if it’s true for all summons… Anyway, I should go get a newspaper first and see what Gotham is like.” Feng Bujue walked out from the alley.

At the same time, in another part of the city.

On a park bench a man sat while reading the newspaper. He was dressed in plain clothes, he wore a jacket, some jeans and was sporting short hair.

He looked like a very ordinary passer-by, no one would notice a guy like him, and if this were a movie, he’d just be a prop, a part of the background that had no face showing at all.

However, he is the player — [King from Shadow]

Suddenly, a small voice said, “someone used a summoning skill.”

The voice was very strange, it seemed to be coming from below the bench that King from Shadow was sitting on, but there is nothing under it.

“What was summoned?” King from Shadow asked softly.

“It’s just a little fish. Don’t worry about it. It’s been dismissed.” The voice replied.

“Is the position of the last appearance determined?” King from Shadow asked.

“Of course.”

The King from Shadow folded his newspaper and slowly stood up, saying to himself, “lead the way.”

I’m probably going to have to reread this arc to familiarize myself with this set-up again. On the bright side, this is a fun series to reread.
